True Success

Success is best understood as God defines it.

Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at something that doesn’t really matter.

Isn’t that something?

It is a sad fact that most people aiming only at success in the eyes of this world only end up achieving an eternal failure.

There would be nothing worse or more pitiful than to look back over your life and find out that you spent it seeking success in something that didn’t matter anyway. Achieving success only to find it was a success in the wrong thing.

If we define success as being “financial success” or owning lots of expensive visible tangible things – Well Jesus doesn’t agree.

What shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his soul?

Success in the unseen eternal things is success. For the world is passing away. But eternity is coming.

If we define success as career.

Well would it really be a success to become a top CEO, a top Business woman and serve some massive company for a few decades and then die and to have never served Jesus a day in your life?

True success is being a servant of Jesus not a servant of the corporate system. Even if your company throws a party at the end of your glittering career and all the mighty and great and famous and royalty turn up to congratulate you and tell you “well done on your career and glittering business achievements” it’s worthless unless when you die Jesus will tell you “well done good and faithful servant”.

If the world admires you and God rejects you I’m sorry but that is not true success. It is an eternal failure.

Success is coming to know and love the Lord Jesus. Success is understanding that you need grace and grace is something you cannot earn.

Success is learning that you are a failure but Jesus was a success for you.

Success is loving God with all your heart and others as you love yourself. Something no-one has ever done to perfection but Jesus did.

So success is coming to know God and love God and to become like Jesus. Success is faithfulness. Success is worshipping the right thing or better the right person!

Success is receiving eternal life and living with Jesus and for Jesus.

Success is becoming the person God had in mind when he created you.

Success – true success – is entering the narrow gate that few find.

Success is admitting you are helpless sinner and need a Saviour.

And success – true success – is living the life He has for you because you love Him and he loves you.

Success is not fulfilling your dreams it is finding yourself in Gods will and fulfilling his plans and purposes for you as an individual.

If we want to know what a successful human life looks like we should simply read the life of Christ. Jesus lived the successful human life. Jesus is Gods standard of true success. To live like Jesus is success.

““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
